Terms & Conditions

Green Active Breaks is a portal that arranges your short activity break in Brighton, Sussex and the South Coast.  With our expertise, we can put you in the right direction whether it is on land or at sea. Most of the activities are supplied by local people and businesses that we know well.  How sustainable is that !

Once the chosen activity is booked with a supplier/operator,  you will become subject to the operator’s terms and conditions including the operator’s cancellation terms.  You are in a contract with the supplier and they will have their own liability insurance which will provide insurance for participants in the case of negligence on behalf of that operator,

Delivery: Green Active Breaks Gift Vouchers and course/activity confirmation will be emailed or sent free of charge to UK mainland and Northern Ireland addresses only. Expected delivery times may vary. These can be sent to you, directly to the recipient, or to another address at your request. If any of these goes astray in the post, we will provide a duplicate free of charge. Please inform us as soon as possible if you believe this has happened so we can do our best to deliver the duplicate in time. We can send Gift Vouchers by standard first class post to an address outside of the UK and Channel Islands for £5.50. Please allow extra time for delivery.

Gift Vouchers – General: Each Green Active Breaks Gift Voucher and confirmation will show a reference number which must be quoted when dealing with Green Active Breaks and will be used to identify your payment. Vouchers and the associated references must be kept safely and securely. Green Active Breaks will take no responsibility for any loss you may incur as a result of theft, impersonation or identity fraud. The voucher is invalid if it is tampered with. Any voucher can be exchanged once only before the expiry date and only if a booking has not been made. Vouchers are void if sold for cash or auctioned on the internet or elsewhere. Expiration dates cannot be modified or extended. Only one voucher can be used per person, per course or activity. Vouchers are not redeemable against books, clothing, products, or anything other than courses & activities. Vouchers cannot be used alongside other offers or promotions.

Gift Vouchers – Flexibility: Vouchers can be used to book any course/activity unless otherwise stated on the website. If your chosen course/activity is higher in price than the value of your original voucher, you will be required to pay the price difference. If your chosen experience is lower in price, the difference will be held as credit to use against any future purchase. This credit must be used before the expiry date of the voucher and is non-refundable. If you are issued with new references and security codes, please quote these in future dealings with us. A new gift voucher will only be issued to you if specifically requested. Green Active Breaks reserves the right to make additional charges for the costs of issuing a new voucher.   Although the activity/course detailed on the voucher is correct at the time issue, it may be necessary to change the activity/course to a similar activity/course to the same or similar value, if no spaces are available. The voucher expiry date will be printed on the voucher and will usually expire after 3 months or the end of the current season. You must book your participation date with Green Active Breaks, either online or by phone, before the expiry date or before the end of the season, whichever is sooner. Vouchers are non extendable and non-refundable after this time.

Gift Vouchers – Refunds: We can make refunds on unbooked Gift Vouchers bought direct from Green Active Breaks within 7 days of purchase. Where dates have already been booked, normal cancellation & rescheduling terms and conditions apply (see below). Refunds are always made to the person who purchased the experience, and if originally purchased by credit or debit card, the refund will be credited to the same card. Should you wish to upgrade a voucher/course/activity or make a refund request, please contact us directly .

Cancellations for activities by Customer:Cancellations must be confirmed in writing at least 8 weeks before the course/activity date. A charge of 30% of the value of the course/activity/booking will be retained. Within the 8 week period leading up to the course date, the charge is 100%.

Less than 4 weeks before, more than 2 weeks = 30% of full amount
Less than 2 weeks before = 50% of full amount
Less than 5 days = Not possible to rebook

Cancellations by the Centre: Sometimes experiences need to be cancelled for reasons beyond their control, such as the severe weather, mechanical breakdown or staff illness. We will do our best to notify you as soon as possible but this might sometimes happen on the day. We then begin to arrange an alternative date or time. If an alternative date cannot be agreed on, no refund will be given.  If a group event has to be postponed and a date cannot be agreed upon, a refund will be given less 15% .We regret that, in these circumstances, Green Active Breaks is unable to reimburse travel, accommodation or any other expenses you may incur in relation to the cancelled experience.

Restrictions: Certain courses/activities are subject to minimum or maximum requirements specified on the website; e.g. age, health, or weight. We will confirm with you at the time of booking if any restrictions apply to the participant. Once booked, you may be liable for charges if you cancel because the minimum requirements are not met.

Physical Fitness: Although participants do not need to be strong swimmers, they need to be sufficiently fit and healthy to participate in the event and physically agile enough to move about the vessel. We need to be informed of any medical conditions that may effect participation, prior to the participation date, and preferably at the time of booking.  There is no known medical reason why you should not sail while pregnant although from about 4 to 5 you may be less physically agile and we would ask you to refrain from sailing.  If you are sailing up to 4 or 5 months of pregnancy, we would request a Doctors note to confirm you can attend.  While sailing, you do not need to leave the cockpit area and the sport is not an aerobic activity.

Experience Description: The information provided by Green Active Breaks on our website/ literature is correct at the time of print. However, the content or format of course/activity and type of equipment/boat may change during the year. Current details are available on our website or by calling the office and are included as part of your booking confirmation. Your participation is conditional on your acceptance of the experience description detailed in your booking confirmation. Please check these details carefully upon receipt.

Course and Activity Images: The images used to illustrate courses/activities are used as an indication only. The boats, rooms and settings may vary.

Start Times and Session Lengths: Start times need to be strictly adhered to by participants and we cannot be liable for any late arrivals. Late arrival without prior notification may mean that a participant cannot participate in a course/activity and no refund will be offered. The schedule of each course/activity is variable depending on the time required to cover various tasks such as briefings, boat prep and procedures. We give itineraries as a guide only and the running order of a course/activity may change.

The Weather:  If your experience is cancelled due to the weather you will be able to re-book at no extra charge, but your re-booked course/activity remains subject to weather conditions.

In the UK we are lucky (or unlucky) enough to experience just about every sea condition there is, which is why we are generally considered the best sailors in the world and why the RYA training is a world wide standard.  No two sailing days or experiences are the same.  Our rescheduling policy is based only on safety, not on wind or sea state (unless it has an obvious impact on safety).  As much as we'd love too, we cannot control the wind or sea and although we'd like to guarantee ideal sailing conditions, we obviously can't.  Therefore no compensation or rescheduling can be offered for conditions considered 'undesirable' to the participant, if the Chief Instructor or Principal deem it 'safe'.

Availability: All courses /activities are offered subject to availability. The most recent information on dates when a course/activity is available may be found on the website or by calling the office .  Please book as early as possible; at least 28 days in advance or further for peak dates such as weekends or holiday periods. Bookings are not confirmed until you receive confirmation in writing from us.  You should not make any arrangements in connection with the course/activity until you have received your booking confirmation. Where specific elements of the course/activity such as specific boats are not available due to mechanical breakdown etc, Reasonable substitutions may be made on the day. If this is not possible we will notify you as soon as possible.

Please note that the sailing season runs from the beginning of March until the end of October.  Some activity/courses finish before the end of the season (such as evening sails which end in August due to failing light).  If you have a voucher, you need to make sure you leave plenty of time to book a course/activity  (ie 28 days before).  Vouchers are non- extendable and non-refundable beyond the expiry date or beyond the end of the current season.

Special Offers: Offers cannot be used in conjunction with other offers or discount schemes.

Personal Accident Insurance: All of the suppliers we use are fully insured and they carry the required safety equipment. We recommend guests take out their own personal insurance to cover the risk of accident, personnel liability, loss or damage to accompanied personal effects.

Inclusion: We welcome the participation of disabled people in the courses/activities, though we recognize that certain courses/activities may present difficulties for those with disabilities. We are committed to ensuring that disabled customers are given every opportunity to participate, so we ask that you tell us about any relevant disability at the time of enquiring. This enables us to do our best to meet the participants particular needs. We will be happy to provide information about the disabled facilities available at our venues on request.

Complaints: We welcome feedback on your booking and do act upon it. If you have a problem or complaint on the day, please bring it to the attention of the senior instructor or office manager at the venue as soon as possible, so that they have a chance to put matters right. If the problem cannot be resolved on the day, please contact the office, preferably in writing, including as much detail as possible. In general, we consider it unreasonable if you take no action on the day of the course/activity, but then make a complaint at a later date.

Other Terms and Conditions:
In order to maintain the highest standard of customer service and to help with the ongoing training of staff we listen to and occasionally record telephone calls.
